Santiago de los Caballeros, located in the northern Dominican Republic, is the second-largest city in the country. It is the economic and cultural center of the region. It is known for textile manufacturing, rum and tobacco production, and agriculture.
Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration
Was originally built during the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo as ¨Trujillo´s Monument to Peace¨. In the fall of the dictator, it was given the name of ¨Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration¨ in honor to the heroes of the Dominican Restoration War fought from 1863 to 1865 against Spanish forces.
